I don't really mind Malick going balls out and trying to show us heaven or transcendence (or whatever), but it's a stunningly ineffectual depiction, full of trite and silly imagery. Which is really stunning considering all the striking imagery in the 2+ hours preceding it.<br /><br />It's weird because the whole movie seems to be about the "nature vs grace" dialectic set up in the film's narration (heavy handed narration: Malick's Achilles heel) with Malick ultimately trying to blow us away with grace and show us how it is the right path. Instead it's really underwhelming and cliche and really doesn't hold up to the mind blowing "nature" segment earlier in the movie (the creation of earth and evolution). So the film ends up reinforcing my atheism, which I don't think was the intent.<br /><br />It's just too bad that Eric Rohmer died before he could make a dinosaur movie.Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03050879099756585371noreply@blogger.com
